Primary producers must be third party certified to the SFI 2015-2019 Fiber Sourcing Standard or Section 2 – SFI 2010-2014 Standard, Objectives 8-20. Primary producers are manufacturers sourcing more than half of their fiber directly from the forest.

Secondary producers must be certified to Annex 1 of SFI 2015-2019 Fiber Sourcing Standard or SFI 2010-2014 Section 4 – Rules for Use of SFI On-Product Labels. Secondary producers include organizations such as manufacturers or printers sourcing more than half of their fiber from secondary sources who can verify that at least two-thirds of the supply comes from certified forest content, which includes content from forest tracts that are third-party certified to conform with the SFI 2015-2019 Forest Management Standard or the 2010-2014 Standard (Objectives 1-7; 14-20) or other acceptable forest management standards (e.g.CAN/CSA-Z809, CAN/CSA Z804 and ATFS), through a fiber sourcing system certified to conform to the SFI 2015-2019 Fiber Sourcing Standard or SFI 2010-2014 Standard (Objectives 8-20) for primary producers, or from pre-consumer or post-consumer recycled content.
